It was indeed a hectic day for citizens in Edo State Monday 19th Oct. 2020 as the #EndSARS protests continued unabated in the state. Protesters took control of all the major roads grounding all government, commercial and individual businesses.
The simultaneous protests took place in Ubgiyokho, Ekenwan, Sapele, Upper Sonkpoba, University of Benin (UNIBEN) main gate, Oluku junction, Ramat park, Agbor park among others and banks were forced closed for businesses.
Hoodlums in the guise of protesters attacked Police facilities in Ugbekun Police Station, Idogbo Police Post in Ikpoba Okha Local Government Area, and Oba market Police Station in Oredo Local Government Area. During the attacks, protesters carted away arms and ammunitions including uniforms of Police officers, they forced the cells open and made way for detainees to escape.
Two Correctional Centres Oko and Sapele roaad, were attacked leading to a jail break with thousands of Prison inmates bolting away while two young men suspected to be members of the protesters were shot dead in front of the centre during the struggle.
Meanwhile the 24 hour curfew imposed by the State government is expected to continue till further notice.
