NUJ, NIPR Meet, to Strengthen Collaborations and National Image.

The leadership of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations NIPR led by its President and Chairman of Council Dr. Ike Neliaku on Monday 11th March 2024, paid a courtesy visit on their counterpart, the Nigeria Union of Journalists NUJ, Comrade Dr Chris Isiguzo, to strengthen their relationship and further explore areas of mutual interest and collaborations, for the benefit of their members and positive promotion of the country's national Image.

Speaking during the visit, the NIPR President and Chairman of the Council,  Dr Ike Neliaku thanked the NUJ leadership for hosting the NIPR team at a short notice. Dr Neliaku said "We are here, basically to show our solidarity to the Nigeria Union of Journalists and to officially present our proposed programs and events as a strategic stakeholder". 

Dr Neliaku went ahead to present array of programmes lined up by the the Institute, saying, "we have come to among other things inform and carry the NUJ along in the many programme and projects we are putting together, so to place NUJ and NIPR on same page as sister Unions."

He said "We are floating, National Spokespersons Summit and Awards, Nigerian Institute of Public Relations Week, Nigeria Rebirth Dialogue, NIPR Diamond Anniversary Celebrations, Nigeria Reputations Fair, and the establishment of the Nigerian School of Public Relations, a specialized NIPR education which we expect that at the long run shall snowball into the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations University, first of its kind in the whole world. 

Continuing, Dr Neliaku said "ofcourse, we cannot do these projects without the support of the NUJ. The summit is to recognize those who have done well in promoting the reputation of the nation. It is a national summit with the support of the Ministry of Information and National Orientation, which is expected to take place in the month of March 2024. " Dr. Ike, said. 

In his remarks, the NUJ President, Comrade Dr. Chris Isiguzo, eulogised the new leadership of the NIPR under the able watch of Dr Neliaku in packaging quality projects that is expected to positively impact the Institute and NUJ.

"You have demonstrated a strong point for the relationship and vital roles both bodies play in promoting transparency, dialogue, and holding powers to account.

"It is the constitutional role of the NUJ to uncover the truth and hold government accountable, while NIPR ensures that organizational information are well communicated. 

"I very well appreciate the NIPR as a specialized profession, however, there is need for strong sensitization among practitioners and the populace, in order not to go against the reality of freedom of speech and information, which can pose serious danger to our developing democracy."

The NUJ President also expressed his support and collaboration to the NIPR and its leadership in their renewed efforts in tackling quackery in the industry, while appreciating Dr Ike Neliaku's offer for the waiver extended to NUJ members who wish to join Nigerian Institute of Public Relations.
