Navy Uncovers Large Illegal Refinery Site in Bayelsa

The Nigerian Navy said it has discovered large illegal oil bunkering site at Nembe creek, Bayelsa State, where criminal elements engage in illegal refining of adulterated petroleum products.

This was made known by Navy Captain Ifeanyichukwu Charles, the Commanding Officer of the Nigerian Navy Foward Operating Base, Formoso, during interaction with Newsmen shortly after leading operatives of the Forward Operating Base to storm the area.

During the operation, about 80,000 litres of automotive gas oil (Diesel) and 100, 000 litres of illegal sourced crude oil were allegedly intercepted and destroyed.

Navy Captain Ifeanyichukwu explained that the operation was made possible with the assistance of credible intelligence by a high resolution drone deployed to the area.

The Commanding Officer said the operation is a continuous exercise, warning illegal oil bunkering operators in the creeks to steer clear of oil theft business, saying that the Navy will stop at nothing in bringing them to book.

In his reaction, the Spokesperson, Nigerian Navy, Commodore Adams Aiwuyor Aliu, said the exercise is aimed at cracking down on illegal oil bunkering activities within the Niger Delta area of the country, warning operators of illegal refineries to desist from the illegal act, as the long arms of the law shall definitely catch up with them anywhere they are.
