AWPP Workshop Advocates More Women In Politics

The Advance Women Political Participation in Nigeria Project (AWPP) has just concluded a two workshop in Abuja, with a call for more Women Participation in Politics.

The Workshop with the theme, Media Strategy and Message Development, which attracted participants from the six geopolitical zones of the Federation and FCT, herpes on the need for a conscious move for more Women to actively get involved in Politics, decision making and other leadership positions in all the socio-economic and particularly political sector in Nigeria, so as to contribute more meaningfully to the development of the country.

The Workshop stressed on the importance of exploring all various mediums of the media, Radio, Television, Print, Social media, community and core grassroot mobilization and Family reorientation, including, Person to Person advocacy, in driving home the message of the Workshop.

The Workshop also identifies some key challenges hampering Women involvement in politics to include; unfavorable culture, tradition and religious practices, complex family roles of women, corroded value system, setbacks in girl child education and funding in particular, as major challenges mitigating against women's active participation in Nigerian political sphere.

Participants in the Workshop identified robust use of the Media, intensified advocacy and reorientation of value system, as a way forward in advancing the call for more women in politics.

Representing the Organisers, Ms Prescilla Feberesima, thanked the participants for their robust and meaningful contributions at the Workshop, appealing to them to endeavour to continuously spread the advocacy by translating them into programs in their various channels.

Representative of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, at the Workshop, Comrade Tita Onyebuchi, Nze, congratulated the Organisers and participants for a super outing, urging other Non-governmental organizations to come up with more engagements in that regard.
