EDO & LG ELECTIONS: Archbishop Iheanachor Appeals for Calm

The Primate, metropolitan, Gospel Anglican Church Worldwide, His Eminence, Archbishop, Prof, Chukwuereka Iheanachor JP, has called for calm in the ongoing final stages of the Edo Gubernatorial Elections, as well as the just concluded Local Government Elections conducted in Imo, Enugu, Kwara and other places across the federation. The Prelate made the call  in Lagos, while addressing newsmen after the Sunday service of 22nd September, 2024.

While wishing the candidates of the participating political parties best of luck, Archbishop Iheanachor said he is particularly concerned about the Edo Guber Elections because of the tension which has evidently continued to mount between the key players in the exercise.

On the Local Government Elections, which took place in various locations on Saturday, September 21, 2024, the Archbishop Chukwuerike Iheanachor described local government elections as one of the most important exercises in a democratic setting, saying that local governments are the grassroots that are closest to the people, appealing to all players to accept outcome of their polls, in the interest of peace and tranquility in their various communities.

He appealed to Electorates, Candidates, INEC officials, Security Agencies, Observers and other stakeholders to endeavour to adhere to the rules, as results are being collated, for a free, fair and credible finishing of the exercise, so as to guarantee the security of lives and property of the people and the country at large.

The Primate advised Christian Candidates who participated in the elections and have been declared winners in their various positions in the Local Government elections, to endeavour live up to the virtues of Christ, which include uprightness in judgement and even distribution of democratic dividends, mind for good governance, respect for leadership of respected institutions and most importantly, loyalty to the citizens and commitment to their manifestos as their social contract to the people.

Archbishop Iheanachor, Primate, Gospel Anglican Church Worldwide, prayed for leaders in the country, for God to grant them special wisdom for good governance and direct them on ways to overcome the hydraheaded challenges confronting the nation. END
