NUJ Confers Gov. Idris, Grand Patron, Kebbi Council.

The Nigeria Union Journalists (NUJ), has Confered the Kebbi State Governor, His Excellency, Comrade Dr Nasir Idris, Kauran Gwandu as Grand Patron of Kebbi State Council.

Presenting the Certificate and other paraphernalia of the investiture to the Governor, the NUJ President, Alhaji Alhassan Yahya-Abdullahi said, the honour was in recognition of the Governor's contribution to Unionism in Nigeria as well as general wellbeing of the people of the State.

The NUJ President, Alhaji Alhassan Yahya, said, "this investiture as ratified by the National Executive Council NEC, of NUJ, is a resolution of the NEC of Nigeria Union of Journalists and I believe is something worthy of emulation.

"Today I am happy that I am presenting this Certificate to someone whom we believe has paid his dues Unionism, someone whom we believe is a Comrade, someone whom we believe has done a lot for unionism and struggle for justice and welfare of the people".

"I am sure he will continue to do more, especially now that he is serving as a Governor."

While thanking Almighty Allah for the opportunity to award a core-Comrade who has paid his dues in Labour activism, the NUJ President urged Gov. Nasir Idris to continue to sustain the good spirit.

"Your Excellency, let me begin by thanking you most sincerely for your wonderful policies and projects in Kebbi State, I am from Gombe State but I have been monitoring your activities and following your antecedents, "I've been following your policies and projects especially in the area of infrastructure; I must commend you in this regard. As journalists, we are monitoring you and we believe you are doing wonderfully well," he said. 

The NUJ President lauded the Governor for integrating traditional institutions in his scheme of things, supporting them with funds for the renovation of their Emirates; "I am aware of that and must sincerely commend you in that regard." he said.

Comrade Alhassan Yahya also thanked Gov. Nasir Idris, Kauran Gwandu for carrying all interest groups and stakeholders in the Kebbi along, in his strategic policies towards enhanced development and moving the State to greater heights.

"Kebbi State is arguably a very large State, which, with your visionary ideas, you have been able to integrate everyone into the State activities, and today everybody is happy, even the opposition are in line with your developmental policies and programmes" NUJ President noted.

In his response, Comrade Dr. Nasir Idris appreciated the NUJ national leadership for the investiture accorded him, stating that, his government had been working harmoniously well with the NUJ in Kebbi State.

The Governor said, "this is very historic because, it is the very first award coming to me in 2025, and I am not surprised because of the cordial working relationship between the State and the NUJ State Working Committee in Kebbi, to have recommended this wonderful award".

Kebbi is a labour State, being led by a Comrade Governor, a well experienced labour leader, who started from State Chairman, Nigeria Union of Teachers, (NUT), to State Chairman Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), National Treasurer, Nigeria Union of Teachers and Deputy National President, Nigeria Labour Congress and President, Nigeria Union of Teachers.

"I want to let you know you that we are one in Kebbi, and even the opposition are coming back to join our government; we've received lots of decampees overtime and 'In sha Allah', still expecting to receive more of them; I can assure you, we will not have much opposition by 2027.

"Mr President be informed that our doors are warmly open to receive you and your NUJ national team any time you want to hold your meetings in Kebbi State. END
