AIG MOHAMMED USAINI GUMEL TAKES CHARGE AS THE 35TH ASSISTANT INSPECTOR-GENERAL OF POLICE IN-CHARGE OF ZONE 7 HEADQUARTERS ABUJA

The Zone 7 Police Headquarters Abuja is pleased to announce the assumption of duty of AIG Mohammed Usaini Gumel, FIPMA, psc as the new Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Zone 7 Headquarters Abuja, effective today, 11th February 2025.


AIG Mohammed Usaini Gumel brings a wealth of experience to his new role, having served as Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Department of Training and Development, Force Headquarters, Abuja, Commissioner of Police in Sokoto, Kano, and the Technical Intelligence Unit of the Force Headquarters. His expertise in peace and security promotion, community policing, and rehabilitation strategies will be invaluable in his new position.


Profile of AIG Mohammed Usaini Gumel

AIG Mohammed Usaini Gumel holds a Master's degree in Educational Technology from the Federal University of Technology Minna, a Bachelor's degree in Islamic Studies from Ahmadu Bello University Zaria, and a National Certificate of Education from the Advanced Teachers' College Gumel, affiliated with Bayero University Kano. He also holds a West African School Certificate from Government Secondary School Karaye, Kano State.


_Notable Achievements:_

- Successfully rehabilitated over 600 former criminals, empowering them to become productive members of society

- Played a crucial role in maintaining peace during the 2023 governorship elections in Kano

- Served as the Nigerian Police Contingent Commander in the UN Mission in Liberia

- Headed the police component of ECOWAS Peace Support Operations during the Gambian post-election situation in 2015

- Reduced crime rates in Sokoto and Kano through community policing initiatives and rehabilitation strategies

- Transformed over 700 individuals from criminals to productive community members in Kano through community policing initiatives and rehabilitation strategies

- Served as the Nigerian Police Contingent Commander in the UN Mission in Liberia (2011)

- Headed the police component of ECOWAS Peace Support Operations during the Gambian post-election situation in 2015

- Participated in the ECOWAS Peace Support Operations Division (2016-2021)

- Attended the Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre, Ghana, for the Command Post Exercise (CPX) on the Operationalization of ECOWAS Standby Force (2012)
